About Cardiff & District Rugby Union

This page is to be updated

On behalf of the Cardiff & District Rugby Union Executive Committee, I would like to welcome you to the third full season featuring our website. This is a landmark season for Cardiff & District as it marks our 120th anniversary, having been formed at a meeting held on 14th November 1892 at the Market Hotel (later the Market Tavern and currently O’Neill’s) on Trinity Street, next to Cardiff Central Market. To mark the occasion we have agreed that our representative side will play Cardiff RFC at the Arms Park during the season and as soon as we have confirmed the date with them we will inform everyone. We would also like to congratulate two of our clubs, Barry RFC and Taffs Well RFC on reaching their 125th anniversaries this year and we are delighted to be playing representative games against both of these clubs as part of their celebrations

Please also note that our long serving Secretary Wyn Williams has now stepped down after almost 25 years in the post and our heartfelt thanks go to him for his massive contribution to the District over the years. Lloyd Morgan has taken over the mantle and we wish him well; also, Mark Veness of Seaview RFC is starting his first full season as our Competitions Secretary and our best wishes and thanks go to him.

We would once again welcome any suggestions and/or comments and will be happy to listen to any ideas that you may have which would help to promote rugby union generally within our area.

Finally, I would just like to take the opportunity of wishing you all the very best of luck for the forthcoming season.

Gareth Thomas
Chairman, Cardiff and District Rugby Union
